New Mexico Public Education Department:

  • NM-PED has been preparing for the School Health Educators Institute (SHEI), their annual in-person Professional development workshop for health educators across the state.  This year's workshop (held in March 29, 30th,  2011) will be of particular importance as they prepare educators for compliance with the new legislation mandating Health Education as a Graduation Requirement in the 2012-2013 school year.
  • In an effort to support local districts in their compliance with this new legislation, NM-PED has created guidance documents and will host webinars on developing district level implementation plans.
  • With technical assistance from the Society of State Directors of health, Physical Education & Recreation (SSDHPER), and Rocky Mountain Center (RMC), the New Mexico Public Education Department (NM-PED) participated in a webinar training last spring.  This training was part of a larger PD plan to provide professional development to health educators throughout the state at a reduced cost.
  • In addition to providing content specific webinars to health educators throughout the state, this winter NM-PED will convene a focus group to participate in online coursework through Rutgers University, earning up to 12 hours of course credit.
